What is an AI personal assistant?
An AI personal assistant is an agent for the parts of your life that aren't work: trips, tables, appointments, the dentist, the renewal, the birthday, the school email, the family plan for the weekend. Cicada's lives in WhatsApp and iMessage, so you text it like a friend, send it a voice note or a photo of the letter, and add it to the family group, where it stays quiet until someone names it. It keeps the reminders, the lists and the calendar, fills in a booking up to the payment step, and never pays or messages anyone without your yes.
What your AI personal assistant does.
Plans the trip
Flights, the place to stay, what's open when you get there. It reads your dates from the calendar, finds the options, and fills in the booking up to the payment step.
Books the table and the appointment
A restaurant, the dentist, the haircut, the vet. It uses the app where there is one and its own browser where there isn't, and puts it in your calendar.
Remembers for you
"Remind me to renew the passport in March" becomes a message in March. Birthdays, renewals, the school forms, the car service, on the minute.
Runs the family logistics
Add it to the family WhatsApp or iMessage group. It stays quiet until someone names it, then finds the weekend, splits the pickups, and puts it all in everyone's calendar.
Handles the life admin
The school email, the insurance renewal, the letter from the city. Send it a photo and it tells you what it means, what's due, and drafts the reply for your yes.
Keeps the lists
Gifts, packing, the groceries, the house jobs, in a sheet it updates when you text it. "Add batteries" from the car is enough.
Who hires an AI personal assistant.
Life admin off the desk
The trips, the renewals and the family calendar handled by an agent of your own, kept apart from your work.
The family's second brain
Pickups, forms, birthday parties and the vacation plan, run from the family group chat.
Trips booked from the car
A voice note with the dates and it comes back with options, then the booking filled in for you to pay.
One calendar that's actually right
Both calendars kept in step, dinners booked, the weekend planned without the thread of forty messages.
Appointments kept
Clients, the dentist, the accountant, the school run, all booked and all reminded on the minute.
Appointments and prescriptions tracked
The hospital letters read, the appointments in the calendar, the reminders to you, and to family after your yes.
Set up in three steps.
Say what the job is
Describe the role in a sentence when you sign up, or tell the agent in the chat. It writes its own brief, which you can read and change any time.
Connect the apps it needs
One click for most apps. Each one can be Full, Ask first or Read-only, for every agent in the workspace.
Link your phone, or don't
Scan a code and it's in your iMessage or WhatsApp. Or keep it in the app, Slack and email. Hand it the first job in the same message.
Nothing goes out without your yes.
Nothing goes out without your yes
Anything that can't be undone, and any message to another person, waits for your OK. Approve with a 👍 in the chat, or set a role to full autonomy once you trust it.
Read-only is a real lock
Make any app read-only and the agent can look but never change a thing. It applies to every agent in the workspace, from their next run.
Every step on the record
Each run shows what it read, what it did and what it sent, step by step, in the Activity tab. Corrections you make stick.
What it won't do.
Won't pretend
If it couldn't confirm something, it leaves it out and says so. A number without a source doesn't go in a message.
Won't go around you
It never messages anyone on your behalf unless you asked, never spends money, and never makes a judgement call about money on its own.
Won't read what isn't shared
Teammates' agents work only through the apps the workspace shares. Your inbox and your personal apps stay under your own login.
Three ways to run your life admin
| Task | Doing it yourself | A reminders app | An AI personal assistant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planning a trip | A weekend of tabs | Not covered | Options in a sheet, the booking filled in, you press pay |
| Booking a table | A call or a form | Not covered | "Table for 4 Friday at 7" and it's in your calendar |
| The dentist, the renewal, the birthday | You remember, or you don't | A notification you swipe away | A text on the day with what to do, and it books the next one |
| Family logistics | A forty-message thread | Not covered | Named in the group, it finds the weekend and fills everyone's calendar |
| The letter from the school | You read it later | Not covered | Send a photo; it tells you what's due and drafts the reply |
| Lists | A note on your phone | A list you type into | "Add batteries" from the car, and the sheet updates |
| Where it happens | Everywhere, in pieces | Another app | Your WhatsApp or iMessage, one-to-one or in the family group |
Things to ask your AI personal assistant.
- 01
"Find us four nights by the sea the week of the 20th, under three hours' drive, dog friendly, and send me the options."
You get: A sheet with the options, prices, drive times and the dog policy, and the booking filled in once you pick.
- 02
"Book a table for four at Osteria Luca on Friday at 7 and put it in Dan's calendar too."
You get: Booked, in both calendars, with the confirmation in your inbox and a reminder at 6.
- 03
"Here's the letter from the school. What's due and when?"
You get: What the letter asks for, the dates, and a reply drafted for your yes if one is needed.
- 04
"Remind me every year on March 3 to book the car service, and two weeks before Mom's birthday to sort a present."
You get: Two recurring reminders that arrive on the day, with a suggestion ready each time.
- 05
"Add oat milk, batteries and the dog's food to the shopping list."
You get: The list updated in your sheet, and a text saying so.
Frequently asked questions.
Where do I talk to it?
WhatsApp or iMessage, mostly. Link your phone with a code at sign-up and it answers in the same thread. Slack, email and the web app work too. Send it voice notes and photos; it reads them.
Can it be in our family group chat?
Yes. Add it to the group on WhatsApp or iMessage. It stays quiet until someone names it, then does the job in the thread where everyone can see it. Your private chats with it stay private.
Will it pay for things?
No. It fills in a booking up to the payment step, in the app or in its own browser, and hands it to you to finish. It never spends money and never makes a judgment call about money on its own.
Will it message my family or the school on its own?
Not unless you asked. Anything to another person waits for your 👍 in the chat. You can give it full autonomy for the family group once you trust it.
How does it remember things?
It keeps a memory of you, your people and your rules, which you can read and edit in the app. Reminders arrive on the minute, and corrections you give it stick.
Can it keep my work and my life separate?
Yes. Your personal apps stay under your own login, and teammates' agents work only through the apps a workspace shares, so nothing personal of yours is read through anyone else.
What won't it do?
It won't pay, won't message anyone without your yes, and won't guess at a date or a price it couldn't confirm. If it isn't sure, it says so.
Can the rest of the family have their own?
Yes. Everyone in a workspace gets their own agent, and the family group can have all of you talking to the same one. Each person's inbox and apps stay under their own login.
What does it cost?
Every workspace starts with 300 free credits. You add a card at sign-up and nothing is charged until you run low; then it's $25 for 200 credits, with no subscription. A quick reply is about 5 credits and a typical run under 20; plans start at $99 a month.
