AI Finance Analyst

An AI finance analyst in your Slack.

It builds the cash-flow and runway sheet from your books and Stripe, explains where you're over or under budget, and sends you the week's numbers on the minute. Board-pack figures come back as a document you can check line by line.

Cicada · 9:07 AM
At October's burn of $148k, $2.31M of cash is 15.6 months. With both hires from November 1 at the salaries in the hiring plan, burn goes to $171k and runway to 13.5 months. If Stripe revenue keeps growing 4% a month, it's 15.1.

The short answer

What is an AI finance analyst?

An AI finance analyst is an agent that turns the numbers in your accounting and billing apps into the views a founder or finance lead needs: cash flow, runway, spend against budget and the figures for the board. Cicada's reads QuickBooks or Xero and Stripe, works the numbers in a sheet with the formulas showing, writes a short weekly summary to Slack, iMessage or WhatsApp, and builds the board-pack numbers as a document. Every figure comes from a source it can name. It doesn't give investment advice, and it never moves money.

What it does

What your AI finance analyst does.

01

Builds the cash-flow sheet

Pulls cash, receipts and payments from QuickBooks or Xero and Stripe into a Google Sheet with the formulas showing, so anyone can follow a number back to its source.

02

Keeps runway current

Recomputes burn and runway every week and runs the what-ifs you ask for: a hire, a price change, a deal that slips.

03

Explains budget variance

Compares actuals with your budget sheet line by line and writes the few lines that matter: what's over, what's under, and the transactions that explain it.

04

Sends the weekly numbers

"Every Monday at 8" becomes a short message in Slack, iMessage or WhatsApp: cash, burn, revenue, runway, and anything that moved past the threshold you set.

05

Prepares board-pack figures

The numbers section of the board pack as a document or deck, branded with your logo and colors, every figure traced back to the sheet.

06

Answers the question in the meeting

"What was gross margin last quarter?" in a text gets the figure from your books and the calculation behind it, not a guess.

CFOs and finance leads

An analyst for the repeat work

The weekly pack, the variance notes and the what-ifs, so your time goes to the decisions.

Operations leads

Spend that matches the plan

Department spend against budget each month, with the vendors behind any overrun.

Agency owners

Margin by client

Revenue and costs by client from your books, so you can see which accounts pay their way.

Ecommerce owners

Cash you can plan around

Stripe and Shopify payouts, stock purchases and fees in one weekly cash view.

Nonprofit directors

Spend against each grant

Actuals against every grant's budget, ready for the report the funder asks for.

Setup

Set up in three steps.

  1. Say what the job is

Describe the role in a sentence when you sign up, or tell the agent in the chat. It writes its own brief, which you can read and change any time.

  2. Connect the apps it needs

One click for most apps. Each one can be Full, Ask first or Read-only, for every agent in the workspace.

  3. Link your phone, or don't

Scan a code and it's in your iMessage or WhatsApp. Or keep it in the app, Slack and email. Hand it the first job in the same message.

Nothing goes out without your yes.

Nothing goes out without your yes

Anything that can't be undone, and any message to another person, waits for your OK. Approve with a 👍 in the chat, or set a role to full autonomy once you trust it.

Read-only is a real lock

Make any app read-only and the agent can look but never change a thing. It applies to every agent in the workspace, from their next run.

Every step on the record

Each run shows what it read, what it did and what it sent, step by step, in the Activity tab. Corrections you make stick.

What it won't do.

Won't pretend

If it couldn't confirm something, it leaves it out and says so. A number without a source doesn't go in a message.

Won't go around you

It never messages anyone on your behalf unless you asked, never spends money, and never makes a judgement call about money on its own.

Won't give investment advice

It reports and models your company's own numbers. What to invest in, buy or sell is not its call, and it never moves money.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Where do I talk to it?

Slack, iMessage, WhatsApp, email or the web app. It answers in the thread you asked in, and in a channel or group chat it stays quiet until someone names it.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the apps you connect: QuickBooks or Xero for the books, Stripe for billing, your budget in Google Sheets. Every figure traces back to one of them, and if it couldn't confirm a number it leaves it out and says so.

Does it give investment advice?

No. It reports and models your own company's numbers. It won't tell you what to invest in, buy or sell, and it never moves money.

Can it change my books?

Most teams keep the accounting app Read-only for it, so it reads and reports and nothing more. Anything it would send to someone other than you waits for your OK, and every step it takes is in the Activity tab.

Can I see how a number was worked out?

Yes. Sheets come with the formulas showing and the assumptions at the top. When it calculates something in its code sandbox, the steps are in the Activity tab.

Can it build the board deck?

It builds the numbers: a document or deck with the figures, the charts and the budget comparison, branded with your logo and colors. It can draft the narrative too, for you to edit.

How often does it update?

As often as you ask: every Monday at 8, the first of the month, or the moment you text it. Scheduled reports arrive on the minute, and background runs are free.

Can my team use it?

Yes. Everyone in your workspace gets their own agent. The accounting and billing apps are connected once for the team, and each person's inbox and personal apps stay under their own login.

What does it cost?

Every workspace starts with 300 free credits. You add a card at sign-up and nothing is charged until you run low; then it's $25 for 200 credits, with no subscription. A quick reply is about 5 credits and a typical run under 20; plans start at $99 a month.
