AI Legal Assistant

An AI legal assistant that reads the contract first.

It reads the contract, lines up the clauses that matter in a sheet, reminds you before every renewal and notice date, and drafts the first version from your own templates. It is not a lawyer, and it says so.

sending the three supplier agreements. what's different on termination and liability?
Cicada · 4:13 PM
Read all three. Northwind and Acme allow termination on 60 days' notice; Kestrel Supply needs 90 and only at the anniversary. Liability: Acme caps it at 12 months of fees, the other two at the contract value. Kestrel auto-renews on March 1, so notice is due by December 1.

The short answer

What is an AI legal assistant?

An AI legal assistant is an agent that takes the reading and the paperwork off a legal or operations team: it summarizes contracts, lines up clauses across agreements, tracks notice periods and renewal dates, and writes first drafts from the templates you already use. Cicada's works from iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack or email, reads the PDFs and Word files you send it, keeps a contract register in Google Sheets and links every source when it researches. It is not a lawyer and gives no legal advice: anything that needs judgement goes to your counsel.

What it does

What your AI legal assistant does.

01

Summarizes contracts

Send a PDF or a Word file, or point it at a folder in Google Drive. You get the parties, term, renewal, notice, payment and liability on one page, with page references.

02

Compares clauses in a sheet

Ten NDAs or three supplier agreements side by side: what each clause says, where they differ and the page it's on. Google Sheets, with a link back to each file.

03

Tracks every deadline

Notice periods, renewal dates and the filing dates you give it, on your calendar and in a register, with a reminder before each one, on the minute.

04

First drafts from your templates

NDAs, engagement letters, notices and replies, written from the templates in your Drive with the details filled in. Nothing goes to another person without your yes.

05

Research with sources

Looks up a statute, a regulator's guidance or a published decision you name and brings back what it found with a link to each source, so you can read it yourself.

06

Keeps the files in order

Files signed copies in Drive, keeps the contract register current and answers "when does the Acme agreement renew?" from it.

Who it's for

Who hires an AI legal assistant.

In-house counsel

The reading done before you start

Summaries, clause tables and first drafts ready, so your time goes on the judgement calls.

Founders

Contracts you actually understand

A plain summary of what you're about to sign and the dates you can't miss, before it goes to a lawyer.

Operations leads

Every renewal on the calendar

Vendor and supplier contracts in one register, with notice dates flagged well before they pass.

Paralegals

A second pair of hands

Takes the first read, the clause tables and the reminders so you can do the parts that need a person.

Sales teams

NDAs without the wait

A first-draft NDA from your template with the other side's details filled in, ready for legal to approve.

Small businesses

Leases and agreements tracked

The office lease, the insurance renewal, the software contracts: what each one says and when each comes up.

Setup

Set up in three steps.

  1. Say what the job is

Describe the role in a sentence when you sign up, or tell the agent in the chat. It writes its own brief, which you can read and change any time.

  2. Connect the apps it needs

One click for most apps. Each one can be Full, Ask first or Read-only, for every agent in the workspace.

  3. Link your phone, or don't

Scan a code and it's in your iMessage or WhatsApp. Or keep it in the app, Slack and email. Hand it the first job in the same message.

Control

Nothing goes out without your yes.

Nothing goes out without your yes

Anything that can't be undone, and any message to another person, waits for your OK. Approve with a 👍 in the chat, or set a role to full autonomy once you trust it.

Read-only is a real lock

Make any app read-only and the agent can look but never change a thing. It applies to every agent in the workspace, from their next run.

Every step on the record

Each run shows what it read, what it did and what it sent, step by step, in the Activity tab. Corrections you make stick.

What it won't do.

Won't pretend

If it couldn't confirm something, it leaves it out and says so. A number without a source doesn't go in a message.

Won't go around you

It never messages anyone on your behalf unless you asked, never spends money, and never makes a judgement call about money on its own.

Won't give legal advice

It reads, drafts and tracks. It doesn't tell you what to sign or whether a clause would hold up; that goes to a lawyer.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Is it a lawyer?

No. It reads, organizes, tracks and drafts. It doesn't give legal advice or tell you what to sign; anything that needs judgement goes to your counsel, and its drafts are for you or counsel to review.

Where do I talk to it?

iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack, email or the web app. Send a contract in the thread and the summary comes back in the same thread. In a group chat it stays quiet until someone names it.

What files can it read?

PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets and photos of signed pages. Send them in the chat, or connect Google Drive and point it at a folder.

Will it send anything to the other side?

Only when you ask, from your own connected inbox, and only after your OK in the chat. Drafts stay drafts until you or counsel say they're ready.

How does it keep track of deadlines?

It keeps a register in Google Sheets and puts each date on your calendar. You get a reminder before each one, timed to the notice period, on the minute.

Where does its research come from?

Public sources on the web: statutes, regulators' pages, published guidance. Every answer comes with the links so you can read the source yourself. If it couldn't confirm something, it says so.

Who can see our contracts?

The files you send it and the folders you connect. Any app can be set to read-only, and your own inbox stays under your own login.

Can my team use it?

Yes. Everyone in your workspace gets their own agent. Shared apps like the contracts folder are connected once for the team; personal apps stay under each person's own login.

What does it cost?

Every workspace starts with 300 free credits. You add a card at sign-up and nothing is charged until you run low; then it's $25 for 200 credits, with no subscription. A quick reply is about 5 credits and a typical run under 20; plans start at $99 a month.
